2020 Wrap Up
To My Lethal Listeners:
What a year it has been. 2020 brought quite a storm and we couldn't have weathered it without the music. Over the last year, we’ve listened to just over 1500 tracks together. That’s approximately 3.7 straight days of music by nearly 1100 unique artists. And, 626 of those songs played were new to this year. In a year that seemed oversaturated with sadness and tragedy, lots of beautiful things were still born. So, for the month of January, I’m doing a series of best of shows to revisit some of the wondrous tunes that not only got us/me through the last year but also the tracks that so perfectly captured the essence and documented the trials of 2020.
Not more than a quarter into the year, we were hit with the global pandemic which forced us to slow down and really pay attention to some of the greater issues we’ve been facing on both a national and global level such as the disparities in education, employment, health care, housing, and not least, criminal justice, which all can be attributed to systemic racism. It’s important to remember that there’s still no justice for Breyona Taylor and so many others who have been murdered at the hands of those who are hired to protect and serve. Neither the fight for social justice nor the pandemic are over and I know it’s exhausting on multiple fronts but we have to keep doing our part to protect the lives of everyone. My godfather used to say all the time ‘you gotta go through it to get to it’ and while this last year was brutal for so many, I truly feel like there’s still beauty in the breakdown and I’m optimistic that this collective struggle will ultimately strengthen and move us both as individuals and as a society towards a much better future state.
As we enter this new year, take time to reset, reflect, recharge and continue to take one day at a time. Take care of yourselves and do all and whatever you need to do to keep your cup full so you can share some of that fullness with others. Be the change but also try to be as kind to yourself as you would be to someone else - that’s at least what I’m attempting to work on.
I truly appreciate each and everyone of you for rocking with The Lethal List. I wish you all a wonderful 2021. Stay safe. Stay blessed. Stay masked and I’m looking forward to continuing on this journey with you.
With All of the Love,
Leese
